Robinhood Trading MCP: setup guide

Education only. Updated Oct 22, 2026. Based only on Robinhood's official help articles and announcement (sources below).

⚠ You are responsible for trades your agent places.

You are responsible for every trade your agent places. TraderStacks explains how the software works; this is not investment advice, and nothing here suggests what to buy, sell or when. Agents can make mistakes, and you can lose money. Robinhood itself says: "You are ultimately responsible for the trades your AI agent places in your account."

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI agents connect to outside apps and services. With MCP access, an AI app can take actions for you instead of only answering questions. Robinhood's Trading MCP is the official way to connect your own AI agent to Robinhood.

The server address (MCP link) for every platform is:

https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

Robinhood's help page shows the link with a space after https://. Type it without the space.

What the agent can see vs. where it can trade

Read access (all accounts)Trading
All your Robinhood accounts, including account numbers
All positions and balances
All transactions, including order history
Only the dedicated account opened for your agent (Robinhood calls it your MCP or Agentic account)

The agent's tool groups cover accounts and portfolio, watchlists, market data, equities, options, crypto, scanners, alerts, advanced orders and Robinhood Legend charts. Robinhood says agents can currently place long equities, options and crypto orders (market, limit, stop limit and stop market), but not multi-leg options orders.

Before you start: the MCP account

To trade with an external agent you must open a Robinhood MCP account just for that agent. It's a self-directed individual investing account, and it counts toward Robinhood's limit of 10 such accounts. You need a primary individual investing account in good standing first. Robinhood prompts you to open the MCP account when you authenticate your agent the first time.

Connect your AI app

Steps as Robinhood documents them. Menu names can change; check the platform's own docs if a menu looks different.

Claude Code

  1. Run in your terminal: claude mcp add robinhood-trading --transport http https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading
  2. Type /mcp in Claude Code.
  3. Select robinhood-trading and authenticate.

Claude Desktop

  1. Go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Add the MCP link: https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

ChatGPT

  1. Go to Settings → Security & login and turn on Developer Mode.
  2. Select Plugins, then + to add a new plugin.
  3. Add the MCP link: https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

  1. Go to Settings → MCP servers.
  2. Select Streamable HTTP.
  3. Add the MCP link: https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

Codex CLI

  1. Run: codex mcp add robinhood-trading --url https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

Other platforms

Robinhood also lists Perplexity, OpenClaw, Replit, AWS Quick, Poke and any localhost platform, using the same MCP link and its sign-in steps.

After you connect, finish the on-screen steps to sign in and open your MCP account. A good first test is a read-only question about the agent's own account, such as asking it to list your accounts.

Trade approvals: check this setting

Robinhood says trade approvals are turned off by default for MCP accounts. With approvals off, your agent can place eligible trades without asking you each time. Trade approvals are still rolling out for MCP accounts, so not every customer has the setting yet.

If you have it: open your MCP account tab, tap your connected agent to open Agent Settings, and toggle Trade approvals under Safety Controls. With approvals on, the agent can propose trades, but you review and place them yourself in the Robinhood app. Robinhood notes some trades may still need your approval even with approvals off.

Alternative: built-in Robinhood Agents

At HOOD Summit on Sep 29, 2026, Robinhood announced Robinhood Agents, built into the Robinhood app, with no linking or setup required. You name the agent, open a dedicated agentic account and choose a model. Robinhood says trade approvals default to on for built-in agents. Robinhood described Robinhood Agents as coming soon to eligible US customers, and said the Trading MCP remains available for people who want to connect their own agent.

Safety checklist

We don't reproduce Robinhood's sample prompts, because they name specific securities and strategies. TraderStacks never suggests what to trade.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Robinhood Trading MCP?

It is an official Robinhood server that lets an outside AI agent, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or Grok, connect to your Robinhood account using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The server address is https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading.

Can the agent see my other Robinhood accounts?

Yes. Robinhood says a connected external agent gets read access to all your Robinhood accounts (including account numbers), all positions and balances, and all transactions including order history. It can only place trades in the dedicated account opened for the agent.

Does my agent need my approval before it trades?

Not by default. Robinhood says trade approvals are turned off by default for MCP accounts and are still rolling out, so not every customer has the setting yet. If you have it, you can turn it on under Safety Controls in Agent Settings for your MCP account.

What can the agent trade?

Robinhood says agents can currently place long equities, options and crypto orders using market, limit, stop limit and stop market order types, but not multi-leg options orders. Crypto needs a matching Robinhood Crypto account and is not available through agents in some states, including New York. Agents cannot transfer, stake or lend crypto.

Does TraderStacks tell me what to ask the agent to trade?

No. TraderStacks teaches the software and the safety settings only. We give no tickers, signals or strategies, and nothing here is financial advice. You are responsible for any trade your agent places.

How do I disconnect?

Remove the Robinhood connector in your AI app (Robinhood's troubleshooting notes describe disconnecting and reconnecting the MCP from your AI platform). If anything looks wrong, contact Robinhood support.
